Jones Supports New RARE Project

/ June 15, 2021

Dr. Brent Jones, interim superintendent of Seattle Public School, has committed $5,000 to a RARE initiative to bring together students of different backgrounds from different schools.

RARE members have discussed bringing students from predominantly white schools together with students from schools with majority minority populations to share activities that may not be specifically race related. Such activities could include outdoor activities or sharing cultural celebrations. The goal is to have students learn about one another on a personal level in order to create bonds and improve understanding.

Jones made the commitment at the June 7 RARE discussion session and said that he may be able to increase the commitment once he sees the specifics of the program. Details of the program will be announced soon.
