Fundraising Specialist – Part Time

Roosevelt Alumni for Racial Equity (RARE) is a non-profit organization, formed in 2020 and staffed primarily by volunteers, which advances racial equity in education through a variety of programs and activities.  More information about RARE can be found on its website.

The role of part-time fundraising specialist will be filled by a candidate who has relevant experience in fundraising, is detail-oriented, creative, energetic, self-starting, thrives on independently finding solutions, is a team player, and is committed to RARE’s vision, mission and values.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads implementation of RARE’s overall fundraising strategy.
  • Leads and coordinates outreach to RARE’s donors.
  • Leads RARE’s committees and Board members in support of RARE’s fundraising efforts.
  • Attends monthly Fundraising Committee (FRC) meetings; the FRC Chair will arrange meetings and set agendas with input from the Fundraising Specialist, and the FRC will work in support of the Fundraising Specialist.
  • Produces monthly summary reports on fundraising activities and results, including how work time was used.
  • Maintains RARE’s donor database.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Believes in and adheres to the mission of RARE.
  • Previous experience in fundraising for non-profits, with strong references.
  • Independent planning and time management skills.
  • Experience working in ZOOM, Slack and other RARE communication tools and social media.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong data-base management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Resides in the Seattle area

Hours and Compensation

  • Approximately 20 hours per month, which includes approximately 2-3 hours per month in RARE meetings.  Except for attendance at scheduled RARE meetings, the work hours are flexible.
  • $50 per hour.
  • No benefits provided.  The position is a part-time, independent contractor.
  • 6-month position starting date March 1, 2024 with a review of performance and possible extension at close of that period.

Measurements of Success

  • Development of a comprehensive fundraising plan.
  • Significant increase in financial support to RARE.
  • Clear reporting and communication to the FRC and RARE’s leadership.
