Myles Mawa is Dancing With the Stars! Update on 2022 JAD Scholarship Winner

/ October 2, 2026

Myles Mawa, a member of RHS class of 2022 and a recipient of one of the two RARE annual JAD scholarships, is showing up and showing out.

After graduating from the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance in June of 2026, his career really took off. Myles has been living in Los Angeles, splitting waking hours between part time work and pursuing full time professional dancing.

This past summer brought some amazing opportunities. For example, shooting a music video with a new artist who released a debut album, performing at LA’s K-CON 2026 event at Crypto.com Arena and commuting back to Seattle to teach and assist in local dance programs.

He is a sought after artist, choreographer and instructor.

When asked what receiving the RARE scholarship meant to him, Myles responded, “The scholarship was so helpful in sending me to a university where I could start building connections and setting a good foundation for myself before entering the dance industry.”

Congratulations to Myles! Look for him on a future VMA show! (MTV’s Video Music Awards)

Quick reminder that RARE’s JAD scholarships assist any student committed to advancing the cause of racial equity in their community.  Though the minimum scholarship amount is $5,000, last year two students were each awarded $6,500.

It is named in honor of James A. Davis, Jr., a 1971 graduate of Roosevelt who was part of the Voluntary Transfer Program in the effort to desegregate Seattle Public Schools. During his time at Roosevelt, James was known for his ability to make friends across racial and cultural lines among other accomplishments.
