It Happens Once A Year…RARE Scholarship Winners

/ July 2, 2026

It happened again this year….

Roosevelt Alumni for Racial Equity (RARE) awarded scholarships worth $6,500 each to two outstanding graduating RHS seniors!

These two young women represent the best and the brightest of the Roosevelt High School student body.

Gabriella Blanco and Kenya Lewin have distinguished themselves as recipients of the James A. Davis, Jr. Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes young people who are outstanding students in the classroom, leaders in the community and warriors for social justice and equity.

Gabriella Blanco’s goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree from a four-year private or public university, graduating with a double major in political science and anthropology. She also plans to attend law school.

Along with her double major, Gabriella has two career paths in mind. She wants to work as an immigration lawyer, building on her passion for the immigrant and refugee community.  Gabriella also wants to create an organization that focuses on volunteerism in Third World countries.

Kenya Lewin states that her educational goals include graduating from high school with a 4.0 grade point average. That academic excellence will allow her to study environmental architecture, sustainability and urban planning at Morgan State University.

After acceptance into MSU’s 3+2 Accelerated Master’s Program, she will earn a B.S. in Environmental Architecture and Design along with a master’s degree in architecture. Kenya’s interests are varied and she has a love for cosmetology; envisioning earning her license while attending college.

With hearty congratulations from RARE we wish them both the very best of luck!
