Take Action for Racial Equity – Join a RARE Committee
RARE’s Committees Offer Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers to join our committees! If you’re interested in supporting RARE’s mission, consider contributing your time to one of the following areas:
Finance Committee
Develops and maintains RARE’s budget and regularly reports financial updates to the Executive Committee and Board. Collaborates with all committee chairs to ensure budgetary needs are clear, accurate, and up to date.
Development Committee
Plans and executes fundraising activities to support RARE’s programs and manages a robust donor database. Develops strategies to attract and retain individual donors, builds relationships with RHS alumni and pursues grant opportunities.
Scholarship & Awards Committee
Oversees and coordinates the communication, criteria, and selection process for two annual scholarships for RHS seniors. Members collaborate with RHS counselors to create, review, and revise scholarship materials, including the application, evaluation matrix, selection criteria, and interview questions. The committee also engages with the RHS community to nominate and interview candidates for Racial Equity awards.
Connections Committee
In partnership with the Urban League Metro Seattle, this committee supports students from Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools in developing leadership among their peers. It fosters a sense of belonging by bringing together students from diverse backgrounds for fun, meaningful experiences in a variety of settings.
People & Governance Committee
Identifies committed individuals who have the time, skills, and dedication to support RARE’s current and future growth. Develops a selection and interview process for on-boarding new volunteers, oversees Board and Committee team requirements, and maintains a Succession Plan.
Open Discussions Committee
Selects relevant topics and secures guest speakers to address issues aligned with RARE’s mission. Coordinates with the Marketing, Communications, and Technology Committee to promote events, encourage attendance, and share post-event content (e.g., blogs, videos, or social media updates).
Marketing, Communications & Technology Committee
Serves as the communication hub for the RARE Board, committees, and the broader community. Produces (or coordinates the production of) newsletter content, maintains RARE’s website, and manages outreach through various social media platforms.
Time Commitment
Each committee typically meets once per month via Zoom and may require an additional 2–3 hours per month for follow-up tasks. Communication among committee members and chairs takes place via Slack, email, and Zoom.
