RARE Accepting Applications for James A. Davis, Jr. Memorial Scholarships
RARE’s James A. Davis, Jr. Memorial Scholarships applications are open now!
Thanks to the generosity of donors, RARE offers two James A. Davis, Jr. Memorial Scholarships once again!
The $5,000 scholarships are available to Roosevelt High School seniors of color who have plans to continue their education at a post-secondary institution. Students planning to attend 4-year colleges/universities, 2-year colleges, trade schools or certificate programs are eligible to apply. While academics plays a role in the selection process, the student’s activities at school or in the community, their experiences with regards to racial equity, and economic need are also important elements of the evaluation.
The application and information about how to apply can be found on RARE’s website under the Programs tab. Click on James A Davis, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund and Application
Applications are due by February 24, 2025 and require thoughtful responses about racial equity as well as two letters of support. Submit applications to the RHS Counseling Center in room 105 by February 24, 2025.
The two scholarships were established and endowed the first year of RARE’s founding. Leah Scott and Elsabeth Assaye, the first two scholarship winners, have already graduated from college! Leah graduated with a degree in Political Science and Law, Societies and Justice. She is working as a paralegal will be applying to law school soon. Elsabeth, having graduated with a degree in Computer Science, is now enrolled in a Master’s program in Data Science. Read more about their experiences..
Clearly, the RARE scholarships have made the path to success a bit easier for these committed and hardworking students.
One of RARE’s goals is to increase the dollar amount of the awards, given the high cost of obtaining a post-secondary education. Donations to RARE are gratefully accepted!
