Fundraising Update – February 2023
If you have donated to RARE in the past, thank you! If you are considering a donation now or soon, thank you again! We view our donors as partners, as members of the expanding RARE family. We are always open to your input and suggestions — and would love to have you join our efforts as volunteers!
In 2022 RARE raised approximately $80,000 from individual donations of all sizes: small, medium, and large. Our goals for 2023 include increasing that amount to at least $100,000 from individual donors, and to supplement that amount with grants, and with direct appeals to foundations and corporations.
Connections Spring 2023 Program to Launch at Roosevelt and Garfield!
Following the successful Connections pilot program in summer 2022, RARE used input from the student participants to revise the experiential Connections 101 curriculum. In partnership with Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, RARE has developed a six- session after-school program designed to increase students’ understanding of racial equity.
Black History Month, 2023
This is the 47th anniversary of the federal government’s recognition of Black History Month. Though Black history had been celebrated in many communities for over a century, it wasn’t until 1976 that the the United States Government formally recognized Black History Month. Today Black history is celebrated by millions, yet under attack in several states.
Opportunities to Volunteer with RARE
Have you wondered what you could do within RARE, but no one ever invited you? Our bad!! We are always looking for volunteers who are passionate about the work to move forward on the journey to racial equity.
Film Outreach Continues its Impact
Promotion for the documentary film Roosevelt High School: Beyond Black and White has been moving right along, funded by a grant from 4Culture, a cultural funding agency for King County. RARE hopes that when people watch the film, they will think about what role they play in making real progress in eliminating all forms of structural and institutional racism. From there, we hope that people can think about what they can do to be part of the solution.
