RARE Awards 2022 Scholarships
Roosevelt Alumni for Racial Equity (RARE) has awarded two scholarships to two deserving students of color who will graduate from Roosevelt this June. Elroe Yayiso and Myles Mawa, seniors at Roosevelt High school, will each receive $5,000 to further their educational studies after high school.
Educational Leader Tori Hazelton to Join Open Discussion on April 25
Tori Hazelton is an experienced educator and educational leader. She enjoyed a sixteen-year career teaching before moving to a coaching role where she supports districts in systemic change. Her topic is “exclusionary discipline”, where disparities can lead to a school-to-prison pipeline for some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
Erin Jones Shares Her Story at February Open Discussion
Erin Jones’ unique life story has given her a special lens through which to view race. As a mixed race woman who was adopted by a White couple and raised primarily in The Netherlands, she had to become “culturally Black” to adapt to life in the United States when she returned to attend college.
First Scholarship Awardee Checks In
One of the first James A. Davis Jr. Scholarship winners has tweaked her college plans. Leah Scott, who was awarded one of two $5,000 scholarships, has changed her major and career plans.
