For many kids in America today, trying to stay alive is a daily chore.  According to Everytown For Gun Safety, a nonprofit organization that has tracked shootings in America since 2013, there have been 122 incidents of gunfire in American schools in 2024 alone, resulting in 34 deaths and 69 injuries. These tragedies occur more often in schools with high percentages of Black and Latino students.

Several members of RARE’s team attended a sneak peek of SENTENCED, the gritty, compelling documentary about our nation’s illiteracy epidemic. Exploring the causes, challenges and the often-lifelong impacts of illiteracy on individuals and communities, SENTENCED is designed to launch 1,000,000 volunteers into the support of early childhood literacy.

Given a person’s age, it may be possible to make tax-free donations to RARE from personal retirement plans (IRA’s, 401K’s, 403B’s). This means you could save on income taxes and, at the same time, provide financial support to a worthy cause, like RARE.
